I'm not entirely sure why I'm doing so many non-normal posts lately. I have a lot to talk about, I guess. I actually did originally have a review scheduled to go up today but it'll be going up next week instead because there is a more pressing issue I feel the need to talk about. This isn't something I necessarily want to talk about, but there comes a point where you need to say something. Well, I'm there.

So, today's topic: hate mail. I usually am very good about keeping the language on my blog relatively clean, but there will be swearing in this particular post, because this is not a topic I can discuss otherwise.

If I keep discussing topics like this, I'm going to have to make a banner or something. Make it an official feature.

I am so fucking sick and tired of assholes being negative online. I know that there is absolutely nothing I can do about it, but that does not make it okay on any level, ever. And no matter what, there's nothing you can do. I put my contact info out there, and people are going to abuse it. My email is available without looking too hard, and while I do have a contact form it isn't that hard to type a fake email address.

What I really don't understand is the why. It's not like I think I'm some untouchable do-gooder or something, but I don't suck as a person either. I try to be nice to everyone, and withdraw when I'm in one of those moods where you can't be. But it's like you can't make some people happy.

To spare you the language, I won't go into all the gory detail, but let's just say these emails often imply that I am a loose woman, which doesn't even make any sense. One, if I am, that is none of their fucking business. Two, I have a steady boyfriend who I don't flaunt but do mention occasionally. Three, calling me a slut isn't even that insulting but it seems so petty. I mean, jeez. Can't these hate mails at least be relevant to my blog or something? Who cares if I'm a slut? I'm not, but that's beside the point.

Now, it's not like I receive a ton of these (maybe two/four a month), but quantity isn't important here. It shouldn't be fucking happening at all. Some people are honestly just horrible people and there is no way around that. There's no way I'm the only person receiving these types of abusive emails. I've long since stopped taking them to heart, and now I delete them without reading them. It doesn't mean that some part of me isn't affected.

And it's not just myself I want to speak out for. I've mostly gotten past the point where these hateful emails truly affect me, but that doesn't mean it's like that for everyone. And at some point, there could be permanent consequences. And that makes me so, so sad.

While I don't necessarily expect everyone to do something proactive about this, I would appreciate it if you would at least take a few moments to think about this. We can't predict the outcomes of everything and despite the classic saying words can hurt. They can hurt like hell.

I'll leave you with that.

And hey, if you ever need to talk to me, please don't be afraid to reach out.

Lovelovelove,

  1. It's so easy to bring to mind the negative but I think you should also consider all the positives. You have so many fantastic followers who read and enjoy your posts. I've been an email subscriber for nearly six months and I really enjoy reading your posts. You have thousands of others who think the same or they wouldn't follow your blog/twitter/etc.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend and put the haters out of your mind.

  2. Dude. I'm baffled. I never understand why anyone feels trolling is a valuable use of their time. Isn't it more fun to play sports or read books or cook gourmet meals or, you know, pretty much do anything? I'm sorry that people suck, Annabelle :/ I'm going to be twice as nice tomorrow to try to even the balance. Begone evil ones. *throws glitter confetti*

  3. Hey Annabelle,
I think that if they send you this email, it's great that you're just throwing them out of your window!
In all honest, I think you're a great blogger, and I really admire you for how you so dutifully update your blog on a regular basis! These people have no right to badmouth you.

And hey, like whyanot, said, keep those followers and fans in mind, and keep the haters out!

    Much love,
    Emily

  5. Hell! Who on earth would do that and most importantly why??? I just can't understand people like that. I've never received an email like that, but I think the right thing to do is ignore them.
So just keep positive and ignore them :) Think of all the people who love this site.

  6. Those who write in the shadow of anonymity is not worth attention. I think they're frustrated and for them the grapes are acre. You rock, so go on. Ignore them!

  7. Who would do that?! Seriously? Why? I've never received any e-mails like that and hopefully i won't but it's good that you don't even read them anymore. Just keep writing your amazing blog. :) <3

  8. This is really happening? Wow I can't believe that. I have never got any hate email so I have no idea what would I do, but it hurts to know that it's happening to other bloggers. Just ignore them...

  10. WHO'S ASS DO I NEED TO KICK?! SHOULD I BRING THE SHOVEL?!!?!

But in all seriousness, I don't understand why they're targeting you. You're one of the sweetest, most amazing people I know! People are dumb and petty, and you got people who love you girl (waves hand enthusiastically), so don't worry about what those idiots say! Keep your head up <3

  11. OMG I can't believe that people would send you hate mail!! I mean, no one should ever send anyone hate mail, but you are one of the nicest people I know. This makes me angry and sad!! I am so sorry this is happening to you. You are better than them so try not to let it bother you. Much love hon!! ♥

  12. Wow, that sucks!! I'm sorry people do that to you. Shall I poke them for you with an itching powder covered spork??

  13. You absolutely don't deserve any of the crap you get from people (obviously)!! Honestly, people are just stupid and have no life. You and your blog are fantastic so please don't let it get you down! Your awesome!! <3

  14. I honestly don't know what to say about this. This is ridiculous and should NEVER happen, especially in a *book* blogging world. Those people have to know you personally, like, in Cali for something. Or they're just dumb idiots that don't know how to properly insult people (NOT that there is ANY way to properly insult people, but I hope you know what I mean). Or both?! Ugh. Ignore them, girl, you do not need to dignify that crap. *hugs*

  15. Sorry to hear about the bad emails. That totally stinks. I have never understood why some people spend their time sending emails like the ones you mentioned- or breaking into emails to spread viruses.

I always love visiting your blog. :)

  16. I really can't say I know how you feel, but I do feel extremely bad just by hearing that people hate you for pretty much NO reason at all. Espcially being called a slut, which doesn't make any sense and have any revelance to your blog. I WOULD say that you should just think about the positives, but I know that you have heard that many times before and it probably doesn't effect you has much. I hope you don't dwindle on the negatives though either. I think you already know how to handle things well enough, so I will just shut up already ;)

    A dedicated non-hater, Kierra

  17. I hate that anyone receives hate mail, as it's completely unnecessary, and as so many people have pointed out, a complete waste of their time.

However, you have to remember that they are bullies, and all bullies are after is attention - which you've just given them. I hate to say it, but I do think just sticking them in your spam and then ignoring them is the way to go.

By the way, just discovered your blog, and really love it. :)
