Giveaways: There are no current giveaways. Please check back soon!

Today's post isn't really about anything in particular, but I've decided there are some things I needed to talk about. Obviously you don't have to read this post if you don't want to as it might get a little ranty, but there are some things I need to say.

Thing #1

Giveaways. I love, love, love hosting giveaways. It's one of my favorite things abut blogging. I love the reactions I get from you guys when you found out you won. There's nothing so sweet. However, lately it's become more and more obvious to me that tons of you are not following the rules on my Giveaways page. I know tons of you you do read and follow the rules, but there are so many people who don't and it is endlessly frustrating. Should I just stop hosting giveaways? Because I don't have to host these, you know. I do them because I want to and because I love you guys. But lately it's really not feeling worth it.

Thing #2

Plagiarism. Most of you remember my Plagiarism Sucks post form last month. I am going to follow-up on that post this month and answer some of y'all's questions.

Thing #3

I got the weirdest and rudest anonymous email the other day putting me down and telling me that I sucked and framed the plagiarist. I do require emails to be put in my contact form but it's not that hard to put a fake email there, sadly. Guys, if you want to slander me, at least have the guts to say it to my face.

Thing #4

Review requests. Mother of god. I realize this probably doesn't apply to most of you since you're probably not necessarily authors, but seriously. It's getting ridiculous. I cannot tell you how many requests I get from authors and publicists who have clearly not read my review policy at all. It's there for a reason, and why should I spend my time reading your book when you don't even respect me and my blog enough to read my policy?

Thing #5

Spam comments. Obviously this is not your fault, but it's annoying and I just have to get it off my chest. I get a ridiculous amount of spam comments each day and it's almost enough to tempt me to start using Captcha.

Thing #6

I need more books. This is a perpetual problem, no matter how many books I buy.

Thing #7

Now we get to the "updates" part of this post. For those of you who didn't see my last brief post, there is indeed a new design here at Sparkles and Lightning. And yes, I am still working out bugs and stuff and am aware that there are currently several problems. Hopefully I can get this ironed out easily fairly soon.

So, I think that's all. At least for now. Thanks for listening, and I do apologize but these things needed to be said. I appreciate you guys listening and being here and rocking my face off.

  1. Great post! I absolutely LOVE the new design, its beautiful! And I'm sorry that you had to receive such a rude email from someone, they should've put their name on and they are obviously a coward not too! xx

  2. It's normal that you want us and the authors to follow the rules, you just ask us to read a page and to stick to what you wrote it's the least we can do, and yes authors should see revews policy so they wxon't loose their time andshow that they are concerned.

I'm reading the giveaway page trying to see when something news is added but it's true that after so many times i'm starting to know it by heart^^

  3. Great post I love your deisgn it's soo awesome!
re : #Thing 3: Awwh...I'm sorry that happened to you, i know this won't make up for what happened by they are obviously just jealous of how awesome you are. ;)
re : #Thing 6 OMG haha it's the same with me! I think I have a i-need-more-books disease or something!

  4. RE: Thing #4 - God, I KNOW!!! It's so bloody frustrating. I have it clearly stated at the top of my review policy: "I am currently NOT accepting new review requests." And yet I still get a million e-mails saying stuff like:

"Hey Ashley! I love your blog and your reviewing style! I was wondering if you could review my book..."

Obviously any time I get a review request e-mail it's obvious that they haven't read my policy since I'm clearly NOT accepting them right now. Rage. Rage. Rage.

Also I'm really sorry to hear that you're getting some hate mail. :( That's just childish.

  5. #1 - why do people even enter giveaways if they aren't going to follow the rules? They're just wasting your time and their own time.
#3 - Annonymous emails and comments suck. To whoever out there does this - if your opinion is worth so much, why can't you put your name to it?!
#4 - I get loads of review requests too but I'm not accepting as many this year. I seriously can't read them all and have tonnes of my own books that I never get to read!
#5 - how irritating is it when within an hour of posting something, you have 5 spam comments on it already! What is that about?!
#6 - I know what you need about wanting more books though - you can never have too many!
    Hope things get easier Annabelle!

  6. This is a PERFECT post. Pretty much all of these are things that have been really bothering me lately and I've considered doing the same thing.
    1. This is the major problem I've had. I specifically state in my rules to read the Rafflecopter directions carefully. But when I write 'Leave a MEANINGFUL comment on -blahblah- review' I still get comments like, 'Great review, I enjoyed this book' or even better, 'I didn't read this review because I want to spoil it for myself.' THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU COMMENT?! And people cheat on the entries all the time. Almost every time I pick a winner I have to try two or three times to find a legitimate winner. This stuff drives me crazy! Like you, makes me wonder if I should even bother with giveaways. I'm spending money out of MY own pocket for this, and I certainly don't have to.
    2. Looking forward to that post!
    3. WHAT!! That really pisses me off! You are one of the most awesome bloggers I know (which you should know by now, I tell you enough ^.^) and there is NO way to 'frame' a plagiarist. The evidence is obvious!! That's just ridiculous. I want to punch that person's lights out. Don't listen to that dumbass (who is obviously trolling) and keep your head up love! <3
    4. YES. I don't know who gave out my email, but I've had an insane spike in annoying review requests from authors who have CLEARLY not read my review policy. I state in there that I'm not accepting self pubbed authors, and state clearly which genres I do and do not read...yet STILL get requests for self pubbed and books waaaay outside my genre preferences. It's so aggravating.
    6. Same here! There's no such thing as too many books!!

    P.S. I lurve you :)

  7. I love the new design! (ha, just saw the 'share' heart unfolding like an accordion-too cool!)

I don't know what it is, but I get at least three spam comments on every post. I really don't want captcha, but it's getting out of control.

Sorry about the cheaters and for being slandered :( Don't let it get you down, you have evidence. And the person writing anonymously instead of coming out with their name speaks a lot about their personality.

  8. Love the new design. I think it's really fucking rude that someone emailed you saying you framed the plagiarist. What kind of an awful person would do something like that? Too bad you couldn't track the IP. I have a feeling that email came from the same house that the plagiarist lives in.

I love hearing from my readers! All comments are greatly appreciated :) If you're a fellow book blogger, include a link so I can come and visit you! I adore you all so much! <3

Also, anonymous comments have now been disabled since I have been receiving upwards of fifty spam comments a day and I'm just done. If you're an actual human being and not a spambot who happens to comment anonymously I'm really sorry.
