Harken Blog Tour
Technically speaking, this isn't a proper blog tour graphic, but I was too lazy to make one, so it'll do.
So, it's my stop on the Harken blog tour today, and I could not be more thrilled! I have some fabulous things to share with you today.

First off, let me start by spotlighting the book:

Harken (Harken, #1)
Kaleb Nation
Release Date: January 13, 2013
After surviving an assassination attempt, teenager Michael Asher discovers that he is at the center of a worldwide conspiracy reaching higher than any earthly power. A supernatural organization desperately wants him dead. He doesn't know why. Everyone who might have the answers has already been killed.
Tumbling into a web of international secrets, Michael is forced to fight back and dig up the truth. He begins to question how much of the world is truly as people are led to believe it is. Are there things that humanity is not being told? Who is the puppet master? And how far into the maze can he venture before he is lost forever?

Interested? Read the first three chapters here!
*Note that the full version of this book is only available on kindle at this time, but will be coming to other devices soon. You can still read Harken without owning a kindle in the meantime. See details here.

I loved Harken. Like, I really, really loved it. Conspiracy theories, when done right, are awesome. My boyfriend also read this, and he loved it too. Reading YA is not just for girls. I don't care what anyone says. So it comes with a high recommendation from both of us. So really, I'm not sure what you're waiting for.

You can also find my five-star review here.

About Kaleb
KALEB NATION is an author and online personality. His blogs and videos have received over 50 million hits online, and he has been featured on NPR, Entertainment Weekly, The Huffington Post, and more.
While writing Harken, Kaleb documented his progress through video blogs at A black belt in taekwondo, Kaleb lives in California with his chinchilla, Chilla. Harken is his first novel for teens.

Hi, Kaleb! Welcome to Sparkles and Lightning!

Hey! Thanks so much for having me!

When did the idea for HARKEN first come to you, and what was your biggest inspiration?

The idea for HARKEN came to me on May 29 of 2010. I know the exact date because I posted about it on Twitter, having no idea that the project would dominate the next few years of my life.

It started out very different from the HARKEN of today. In the first drafts, Callista was evil and burned down most of Los Angeles by the end. But after a few drafts, I realized that I was writing the book all wrong, so I started fresh and focused on the conspiracy theories more. Suddenly everything worked out! I’ve always been a huge fan of conspiracy theories and researching them helped inspire the book.

How did you name your characters?

Callista is a name I’ve had in my writing notebooks since I was about 12. I always wanted to give a character that name and finally had the chance with HARKEN! I stole the name Alli from Alli Trippy on Youtube (I’ve watched a ton of CTFXC daily videos). I’m not sure where Michael’s name came from, it just sounded awesome and fit his character perfectly. Wyck is named after Wyck Godfrey, producer of the Twilight movies. I was looking for a name for my villain and randomly came across a news article talking about him, so I stole his name!

Tell us what the best thing about being Kaleb is.

I get to do what I love, entertain a lot of people, and work from home with my pet chinchilla while I’m doing it!

There are actually two giveaways offered here today. One is a Harken prize pack, which includes a signed poster, a signed postcard, a glow-in-the-dark bracelet, and a glow-in-the-dark silver ring. The grand prize consists also of a prize pack but also includes a Harken-themed Kindle Paperwhite.

Harken Prizes

So, now you've seen the prizes. There are two rafflecopters, each for different prizes. One is for the prize pack only, the other is for the grand prize.

And that's all for this post. Now, I'm seriously recommending this book. So much so that I am putting the buy link here again, so that just in case you missed it earlier here it is again. It's worth it, I promise. It's $2.99! That's less than I spend at Starbucks on a daily basis. It's, like, half as much. I practically guarantee you'll love it.

Oh, and click here to see the full tour schedule.
